Donor-advised funds, IRA distributions, stock and matching gifts

What your fund will ask for.

Everything below is what a donor-advised fund, IRA custodian, brokerage or employer matching-gift portal asks for, in roughly the order it asks. Copy it across, recommend the grant, and tell us it is on the way. If anything does not match what you are seeing on your screen, stop and call the church office at (215) 635-0316 — we would far rather work through it with you than have a gift go astray.

1 Find us in your fund’s charity search

Organization name
Greek Orthodox Community of Philadelphia
Second name on file
Annunciation Church
Tax ID (EIN)
23-1649239
Address
7921 Old York Road, Elkins Park, Pennsylvania 19027
IRS classification
A church and public charity under Section 501(c)(3) — §170(b)(1)(A)(i). Contributions are deductible.

If the search comes back empty, search on the tax ID alone. Clear the name, address, city, state and ZIP fields and search only on 231649239, typed by hand without the hyphen. Most portals match on every field you fill in at once, so a single stale address line turns a perfect tax-ID match into “no results.” If a portal insists on an exact address match, the ZIP+4 on the IRS record is 19027-2306.

Many platforms run our two IRS name fields together and show Greek Orthodox Community of Philadelphia Annunciation Church. That is correct, and it is this parish — the same Annunciation – Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church named everywhere else on this site. The parish is registered with the IRS under its corporate name rather than the name on its sign.

Please note — there are two listings

The parish also has an Annunciation Evangelismos Endowment Fund, EIN 83-3399560, registered at this same address. It is a separate organization and has nothing to do with this campaign: a grant made to the Endowment does not reach the 125th Anniversary Capital Campaign. It is also the listing you are more likely to find, because its name carries both “Annunciation” and “Evangelismos” and the parish’s registered name carries neither. Whatever name your platform shows you, confirm the tax ID reads 23-1649239 before you submit.

2 If your fund still cannot find us

Some portals will not find this parish however carefully you type, and that is expected. Annunciation – Evangelismos is a church holding its exemption as a subordinate under the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese group ruling (group exemption number 2449). Churches under a group ruling are listed in the IRS Business Master File but not in IRS Publication 78, so a platform that searches Publication 78 alone will show nothing.

What you will see, and why it is not a refusal.

Your fund will most likely show “No matches found” or “Sorry, we couldn’t find that charity.” That is not a rejection and it does not mean anything is wrong with the parish — it means only that we are not in the list your sponsor loaded in advance.

Look on that same screen for the option to suggest a charity, continue with my suggestion, or manually enter charity information, and take it. That is the supported route, not a workaround. Your sponsor then verifies us themselves, which usually takes one to three business days, and your grant goes through normally.

You should not have to fight the search box to get there. If a location or ZIP field rejects what you type, it is often particular about the format — many accept only a five-digit ZIP (19027) or a bare City, State (Elkins Park, PA), and reject a full street address or a ZIP+4. And our town is Elkins Park, with an s.

All of this is ordinary and your sponsor will have handled it before. If they want documentation, the record to give them is the IRS Business Master File entry for EIN 23-1649239 — the IRS expressly permits donor-advised fund sponsors to rely on it. The church office will send whatever they ask for: call (215) 635-0316 or write to capitalcampaign@anngoc.org and we will deal with your sponsor directly so that you do not have to.

Please do not mark the grant anonymous unless you mean to

Grants from donor-advised funds and brokerages very often reach us with no donor name attached — the sponsor’s name is on the check, not yours. If you would like to be thanked, or to be listed at your recognition level, ask your fund to release your name and mailing address to the parish. Anonymity is always yours to choose; we simply cannot tell the difference between a donor who chose it and a portal that defaulted to it.

A multi-year commitment can be a recurring grant

This campaign is built on commitments made over three to five years. Most sponsors let you schedule a grant to repeat annually, which is the simplest way to carry a multi-year intention through your fund. Set the amount and the number of years and the rest takes care of itself.

4 The two questions your fund may ask

Nothing is given in exchange for your gift

No goods or services are provided in return for a gift to this campaign. Recognition is name only — a listing at your giving level, or your family’s name on a room or a system you have named. There are no tickets, dinners, memberships or benefits of value attached to any level, which is what a donor-advised fund sponsor is asking about when it asks whether the donor receives anything in return.

Our pledge card is a statement of intent, not a contract

Sponsors generally cannot pay a donor’s legally binding pledge. Ours is not one. The pledge card on this site records an intention so that the committee can plan against real numbers, and it can be revised or paused at any time by calling the office — it creates no legal obligation. So you are free to record your intention here and then fulfill it with a grant from your fund. If your sponsor asks, the grant is not satisfying a binding pledge.

One thing to know about your deduction

You took your charitable deduction when you funded your donor-advised fund, so the grant itself is not separately deductible to you, and our acknowledgment goes to your sponsor rather than to you. You will still hear from us — we would much rather thank you properly. As always, please consult your own tax advisor about your individual circumstances.

5 Tell us it is coming

This is the one step your fund cannot do for you. A grant check can arrive weeks later with nothing on it but the sponsor’s name, and sponsors treat the purpose you wrote as a recommendation rather than a restriction — so a word from you is what makes sure your gift reaches the 125th Anniversary Capital Campaign and is credited to you. Call (215) 635-0316 and ask for the capital campaign, or write to capitalcampaign@anngoc.org.
